1. Wait Before Inserting a New Battery
Zinc-air batteries require oxygen to activate.
After removing the protective colored tab, wait 3 to 5 minutes before inserting the battery into the hearing aid. This allows the chemical reaction to fully activate and the battery to reach its optimal operating voltage.
Inserting the battery immediately after removing the tab can significantly reduce its overall lifespan.
2. Leave the Battery Door Open Overnight
Opening the battery compartment when the hearing aid is not in use—especially overnight—offers two important benefits:
- It completely disconnects the electrical circuit, preventing unnecessary battery drain.
- It allows moisture trapped inside the hearing aid and battery compartment to evaporate, helping protect the device from humidity-related damage.
3. Store Batteries Properly
Store hearing aid batteries in a cool, dry place at room temperature (15–25°C / 59–77°F).
Avoid exposing batteries to excessive heat, cold, or humidity, as these conditions can shorten battery life and reduce performance.
4. Handle Batteries with Clean, Dry Hands
Oil, dirt, and moisture on your hands can interfere with battery performance.
Contaminants may block the tiny air holes that allow oxygen to enter the battery or create a barrier on the positive and negative terminals, reducing electrical conductivity.
For best results, always wash and thoroughly dry your hands before replacing your hearing aid battery.
