What is Vestibular Migraine?

Vestibular migraine is a type of migraine associated with dizziness, balance disturbances, and vestibular symptoms—sometimes occurring without headache.

Common Symptoms:
🔸 Spinning dizziness or a sense of unsteadiness
🔸 Sensitivity to sound or light
🔸 Nausea or vomiting
🔸 Blurred vision or seeing flashing lights
🔸 Ear pressure or tinnitus
🔸 Occasionally accompanied by unilateral throbbing headaches

Attacks can last from a few minutes to several hours.

🟪 Who Is at Risk?
➖ Family history of migraine
➖ Common triggers include stress, sleep disturbances, hormonal changes, and certain foods (e.g., high caffeine content)

🟪 How Is It Diagnosed?
✅ Detailed medical history
✅ Neurological and balance examinations
✅ Exclusion of other causes of dizziness such as Meniere’s disease or BPPV

Sometimes, hearing and balance tests (e.g., VNG, ABR) are used to assist in diagnosis.

✔ Stress and sleep management
✔ Dietary adjustments
✔ Medications such as anti-nausea or anti-dizziness drugs during attacks
