The Role of Hearing in Reducing the Risk of Falls

Many individuals are unaware that hearing loss is a significant factor contributing to an increased risk of falls.

When hearing ability declines:
✅ Less environmental information reaches the brain
✅ Situational awareness is reduced
✅ Reaction time to potential hazards decreases

In fact, the brain relies on auditory cues as well as visual and vestibular inputs to maintain postural stability—such as the sound of footsteps, airflow, and surrounding environmental noises.

Therefore, improving hearing function or using appropriately fitted hearing aids can indirectly enhance balance and contribute to fall prevention.
